Newsletter - 9/11/20

The Character Across the Campus Character Trait for September is "Respect"

We have formed a cohort of healthy individuals on campus after fully testing our faculty, staff, and corps of cadets. As we approach our first open weekend of the year, Hargrave asks that parent's remain diligent in ensuring their cadets are adhering to mask and social distancing guidelines while off-campus.

Honor Council Induction

9/1/20 Town Hall

An Interview With Cadet John Thompson (5 Years on Honor Council)

1. How did you feel when you were initially chosen for the honor council five years ago?

When I was initially chosen, I was excited to be a part of the tradition of upholding our honor code that has been around for 50+ years.

2. What does a cadet-led honor council add to Hargrave?

A cadet-led honor council compliments the brotherhood that we all are a part of, we take care of each other and also help each other learn from mistakes made within our community. The honor council, along with our honor code, work hand in hand to build trust and respect throughout the Hargrave community, creating a brotherhood that will last forever.

3. How has being on the honor council changed you?

Being on the honor council has shown me that everybody makes mistakes now and then, the difference is whether or not you learn from it and strive not to repeat it, or you don't learn from it and build a bad habit that follows you through high school and grows through life.

4. How do you feel about this being your last year on the honor council?

I am eager to see the future leaders of Hargrave carry on this tradition and uphold our honor code which is a big part of building young men of character.

5. Do you have a message for the future iterations of the honor council?

The Honor Council's main goal is to help cadets that appear before us to understand what they did wrong and help them not make the same mistake again. If we keep this basic but important principle, we will truly be preparing them for not only success at Hargrave, but also on whatever path they choose to take next.
